Too old to be a child star, Too young to take leads

Really Charles Clarke's outbursts are getting more and more self-deluding and embarrassing for both him and the Party.

It isn't his age that disqualifies Charles from being a future leader of the Labour Party, it's the lack of judgement exhibited in his interventions, and his record of non-delivery at the Home Office.

A shame, because he is a highly intelligent guy with good politics. He needs to find a role, but the interviews he has periodically given don't help him or Labour.

Didn't Charles Clarke start out in politics as a Hackney Councillor?
I believe he was head of the housing committee between 1980 and 1986. Whilst in that position he managed to get himself himself a Hackney Council owned Street Property that of course he now owns.

Horrible Man

Yes he was a Hackney cllr - for the same ward as I'm in now.

I have no idea if the story you cite is true.

Perhaps he's trying to beat Ted Heath's record for the longest political sulk in history...

Or maybe Labour is really that poor that he has every right to moan.

Clarke's a horrible bully with awful politics, IMO, though Luke I do applaud your use of long-forgotten Morrissey album-track lyrics in headlines and hope this is the start of a trend

Hey Luke, the link doesn't seem to work. I can guess what he said mind you... I thought he started political life as an NUS though.

Link should work now. You can find the Standard story I was trying to link to by searching for Charles Clarke in google news. He was NUS President on a Broad Left ticket (i.e. Communist not Labour Students) then later a Labour cllr in Hackney.
