Turnout

Turnout in my part of the world seems to be in the mid to high 40s - which in a low turnout borough like Hackney is very near to General Election levels and has to be good news for Ken.

Colleagues in Camden reckon the turnout in Highgate, where there was a simultaneous council by-election closely fought between Labour, the Greens and the Tories, has topped 80%!

Outside London I'm picking up that the Labour vote, whilst not switching, hasn't turned out to the extent we would want.

And I'm picking up that you have contracted the same dislocation from grim reality as afflicted the Tories in the 1990s. "Whilst not switching"? The "whilst" betrays you. It's one of those expressions, like "refrain from", that nobody ever uses unless they're trying to sound more convinced than they really are. We shall see if the Labour vote has whilsted awhay.

Your right I worked yesterday in a polling station in Hackney and it was so busy all day. A steady stream all day from 7am till 10pm. At least a 40% turnout. I also met local celeb Moleman although he had come to the wrong polling station. Doubt he was voting Labour
