The tory councillor that resigned his seat to cause the by-election in this particular Wednesbury seat won with 79.3% of the vote in 2008.
ReplyDeleteThis represents a 45.2% swing from Tories to Labour since 2008!!!!
Is this the record pro Labour swing?
Spectacular win. And not just hoovering up the libdems either but also getting straight switches from the tories. I think the penny is starting to drop amongst a lot of ordinary people that the cuts are going to be a massive assult on basic public services, not just on so-called 'scroungers'
ReplyDeletegreat win
ReplyDeletewell done in Sandwell and Liverpool
For the record, the result of the Anglesey by-election yesterday was:
ReplyDeleteInd 319 (84.6%)
Con 58 (15.4%)
The previous election was contested by two independents.
Wednesbury North. The BNP got 12.1%
ReplyDeletehere in May but no candidate this time. A very pleasant surprise in a district where they have done very well in the recent past.
If this Sandwell "best in 36 years" win was repeated across the country then Labour would win overall control of places like Basingstoke! Yes!! Get in!!!
ReplyDeleteSMASH THE TORIES
ReplyDeletejust seen 6 Lib Dems left the Party in Rochdale
When I read comments like the last one calling the faithful to 'Smash the Tories' I have to despair for our nation. It is only politics, not war yet some of your contribuotors make it seem more like Roundheads and Cavaliers.
ReplyDeleteHas it not occurred to anyone that the dear old place is in the mire, whether that is down to bankers or over spending hardly matters now, and it would be kind of nice if we could pull together to get it to rights again. Instead too many people engage in some kind of old fashioned class war as though everyone who isn't Labour is somehow the enemy.
What a sad trivial bunch.
We know what's right on Merseyside! Those Tory votes are classic - and that ward includes not only a council estate but also a large estate of private housing, detached and semis
ReplyDeleteThe Baxenden result is also very good in an area which swung away from us wildly at the last county council elections - a typical Lancashire 'posh' area
Can't help but think that the further from London and the South, the less the coalition sparkles - we actually can win majorities without large numbers of southern seats
Keep the pressure on the Con/Dems.
ReplyDeleteIts time Labour supported trade union fight back, as we might be able to crack them with plenty of civil unrest and strikes.
With people losing their jobs left right and centre
ReplyDeleteas a nurse union official in the NHS (allegedly ring fenced)Iam dealing with hundreds of redundancies
While the millionaires in Cabinet say that youve never had it so good
of course we want to smash the Tories (and the Lib Dems who support the cuts)
Lets pull together !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteand appoint my mates as photographers etc at tax payers expense, or secure new ministerial cars. Like the Coalition Cabinet of millionaires
This
while sacking thousands of public sector workers including Policemen/women, firefighters, teachers, nurses etc...
yeah
were all in this together
Strange as it may seem we are all in it together for it is the same country and all Tory and Lib/Dem supporters are not millionaires.
ReplyDeleteAs to wealthy folk in the cabinet, well the last Labour lot were not exactly pennyless, Tony B has been raking it in since and it was almost New Labour that invented rewarding cronies.
Off with the blinkers. We need and deserve a better country but replacing Conservatives with Labour every few years is not the answer. New Labour had the chance and the support to deliver so much, and like Obama across the pond, the largely failed to deliver.
True Tony Blair was a Tory buying and selling properties making money on them and he rakes it in,but if more working class joined the L-P and got involved People like Blair would not have a chance at winning the leadership. So don't blame Blair its not his fault its all those working classes not getting off their Arses and get involved in the LP
ReplyDeleteI think you probably mean the non-working classes sitting on their
ReplyDeleterear ends whilst drawing their benefits. As to Tony, well he was not alone in government and it hardly improved after he left. Thirteen mainly wasted years when, certainly for the first ten, there was massive support even extending into the middle classes.
Labour will do well now right through the mid term, as people want to protest at the savage cuts, but at a Gen election the voters will be frightened off with stories of Labour planning to borrow £4 trillion pounds and let in another 5 million immigrants.
ReplyDeletelib dems will nolonger be relevant in large parts of the uk
ReplyDeleteits where there vote goes
