Polls
I gather from www.politicalbetting.com that Tuesday's ICM poll makes grim reading.
For solace, read about our colleagues in the Aussie Labor Party having a 5% poll lead (rising to 8% on the preferred vote) and their leader Kevin Rudd having a record-breaking 68% approval rating.
Don't all emigrate at once.

Hmm.
I hope they win in Australia. They are up against the worst PM in living memory.

I am not at all surprised by the poll. I listen to friends who have voted for the Labour Party in recent years (because of Tony Blair's leadership)and they will not vote for the party should Gordon Brown become leader. One can have a great intellect but this does not appeal to the floating voter. Style matters in a leadership contest to this group - not policies nor intellect.
We have problems - some MPs - Frank Field for eg realise this? Bring on David Miliband....

I'm amazed by the delight with which some party right-wingers are greeting this poll!

In matter of style, if Brown sounds like a dout Scottish, Miliband looks like a geeky school boy with shaving problems.
On that level, Johnson is probably better

Am I the only one to think that Johnson just comes across as really boring? Never understood why he's regarded as even remotely charismatic.

I'm considering putting a fiver on David Miliband at 20-1 just in case it gets worse for Brown. Could be an interesting few months.

Yes, Milliband is a complete geek and Johnson IS completely boring. Ironic, no, that the Blairites are tearing the Party apart when they are the ones who have lectured the rest of us for years on "unity".
I would feel sorry for Gordon were it not for the fact he nailed his colours very much to the Blairite mast some time ago. With friends like those, etc etc In reality, Miliband has no chance of succeeding him. Unlike the Tories, we have an electoral college system which gives the unions and CLPs asay.John McDonnell would get more votes from the grassroots in any contest.

Susan, McDonnell isn't going to win. Maybe if you and all the other far-Left nutters would've kept your mouths shut we'd be ahead in the polls.
People like you are the best recruiting sergeants the Tories have. You're mad, bad and dangerous.

You on the far Right (Sham) and you on the far Left (Susan) are both as bad as each other. Grow up!
Yes, I also know people who will not vote for Labour because of the change from Blair to Brown. They tend to be upper middle class types who quite frankly are more at home ideologically with the Tories, they were simply attracted to the Blair image. To balance this out, I know plenty of people who won't vote Labour again until Blair leaves and there's some renewal in the party. This latter sort are obviously lefties - and they also tend to be the ones who would actually join the party and get involved in activism, street campaigning, etc.
The Australian Labor leader publicly denounced socialism, claiming "I have never been a socialist, I will never be a socialist". At least Blair never did that.

Explain?
If Howard is really that bad, how come he's overseen unprecedented economic growth and been in power for over 11 years?
