Membership up

The July quarterly report I get as a CLP membership secretary shows Labour membership growing again in Hackney North for the second successive quarter. Taking into account the tighter rules on members in arrears that have been brought in, it is now back to pre-Iraq War levels.

What are other CLPs finding?

Not losing any more. Slight upwards bumps - measured in handfuls - but nothing like replacing the huge losses. Fairly close to the figures for May 2003 I suppose. But of course the major haemorraghing had already taken place. If you'll pardon the blood metaphor.

Post script:

Have now published a good part of this afternoon's research on latest E-S defectives to Tories.

These defectives' stepping stone from Labour to Cameron's Conservatives was founded and is still masterminded by an ex-NF Organiser and jailbird (ABH for 4-5 months of a 6 month sentence) for bricking and wounding a police officer from a moving train.

I'm not a Labour Party member but I'm told by local Labour members, and ex-members, that here in Allerdale the local CLP has dropped from almost 1000 members to under 100 in the last few years.

Welcome to the Labour heartlands.

In south wales it has been steady, but nothing spectacular. Because of the deputy leadership and special conference we had over the coalition in the assembly our current members seem re energised though
