NEC nominations
Hackney North CLP had its AGM last night and as usual in recent years there was a very tightly fought vote for the 6 nominations for the Labour Party NEC, resulting in a 3-3 draw between right and left. The split in the left between the official Grassroots Alliance slate and the Labour Representation Committee's Jon Wiseman was played out locally.
First round results were:

Christine Shawcroft (GA) - 17
Azhar Ali (LF) - 16
Peter Kenyon (GA) - 16
Deborah Gardiner (LF) - 15
Mohammed Azam (GA) - 15
Peter Wheeler (LF) - 12
Fran Griffiths (GA) -12
Peter Willsman (GA) - 9
Jon Wiseman (LRC) - 5

This can't be right. An AGM report without spurious allegations of AWL membership...
A score draw again, would you say, Luke? Maybe you slightly edged the NEC nominations given that both sides supported Ann Black but I was pleased Teresa Pearce got an NCC nomination.

Last time Hackney North nominated
Ali, Reeves, Azam, Jackson, Shawcfoft, Black.
Last time it was 3 GA, 2 LF and 1 Indy.
The top 6 in first round were the ones getting it in the end, right? If so Black, Ali, Reeves and Shawcroft confirmed their nominations from Hackney North. Azam fell short to get it this time with Kenyon getting it for GA.

We voted almost unanimously to suspend standing orders after the first round and accept the top 6 on basis that the eliminating ballot would have taken a further 4 rounds, lastest an hour and most likely produce the same result.

Jon Wiseman may be a member of the LRC, he's not standing as an official LRC candidate, is he? As an independent, I thought. Obviously there are people on the GRA slate who are members of the LRC too.

Of course, I meant that Christine is a "left" candidate . Ann and Peter are far more centre than left.

Does it really matter? I'm reading the front page of the independent and it looks like Labour are getting the blame for destroying our education. Just when you thought the bad news could not get any worse...here comes another blow. You're doomed I tell thee.

I think there is support for all candidates in seats. I have a couple of nominations so far and I hope for a couple more. The interestinf thing for me was no Peter nomination and I know he is the hardest worker on the other slate

I see on Labour Home that Wiseman has withdrawn, but all is not lost because our hero has extracted some important concessions from Tony Dubbins. According to Wiseman, Dubbins has promised that he will support his friend and colleague Mike Griffiths to be next General Secretary of the Party. I can't imagine that Dubbins would have backed a close colleage had our hero Wiseman not made his critical intervention. Well done Wiseman!

Wiseman got a nom in my CLP but was pulled to avoid a contest as he had not sent any request or papers apparently and without him we had six. Azam, the three GLA women, Ellie and Peter Wheeler.
