The difference is turnout
The positive GLA results so far, with Labour's vote up massively since 2004, show that the Labour vote is still out there and will still come out for us if an election is hotly contested enough.
Labour voters haven't switched direct to the Tories outside London, they have punished us by staying at home - given the right policies they will come out and we can still win a 4th term.

Sorry your wrong Labour have damaged the people who have kept it going through the bad years, I spend 38 years in Labour I've left now, I'll not be back. The problem is the speak has failed, I got sick and tired of hearing remember Thatcher, it was not us who was forgetting it was New Labour.
The fact is New Labour is so close to the Tories we might as well allow the Tories to run the country.
I will not be back and I doubt the people around me will return, you again have taken us to lightly

Luke you need to get some sleep and face reality. Labour are so out of touch with working class views. We are sick to death of tax and the cost of running our homes and cars.
You have hurt the very people you have elected to protect. You are robbing those at work to feed those that can't be bothered. While all this the rich are still getting away with paying very little with the burden being left to those who earn less than £20,000 per year.
How is this fair and why on earth would anyone who works hard for Labour. They are liars and cheats and I hope this is the last time they see power.
Please stop panicking about Ken, he'll keep his job this time around and I've always maintained that fact.

I'm working class. My dad was a miner, I served in the Royal Navy for over 20 years before taking over my dads business just a few years ago when he fell ill.
I've always voted Labour and stood by my dads side during the miners strike. My whole family voted Labour and we were all members of the Labour party.
So why is that my whole family and all my friends will now never vote Labour again? It is because we feel badly betrayed and around here we don't mince our words.
I've had a lay off 25 lads this week because one of our domestic contracts with a housing association has been withdrawn because of the housing crisis. So when Labour should be building more social housing the credit situation means housing associations are seeing their assets fall and their access to credit stopped.
And what does Brown do ....bail out the banks. I wish you could have been in the room when I told the lads there had lost their jobs. Some of them were reduced to tears.
These are the people who are going out and voting conservative.
All Labour = Spin and lies..

They stayed at home because of the policies of Brown and this government, which you espouse.
Core labour voters - not only the working classes, but also the middle class intellectual voters, who vote in large numbers, have just had enough.
I don't know anyone who voted Labour with enthusiasm - and that includes the winning candidates I know too, who all felt they won because of their local work, despite the Government.
New Labour is finished.

That sounds terrible Rich. Perfect example isn't it though - all the money in the world when it comes to arms or banks, but god forbid people have a roof over their head.
What Party are we talking about again?!

New Labour are finished, they won't return until they change.
Brown should resign and accept that he has no connection with the British people. I personally struggle to understand what his vision is for this country.
What decisions is he making that are safe guarding our future. Why doesn't he reduce the duty on fuel to help struggling families or change the taxation system so the lowest workers can earn more.
There are so many things he could be doing but he isn't. I don't understand why he is refusing to listen to working people....what is his problem. Is he that stupid, he has an army of advisors what are they telling him.
Pull your finger out and start helping people to rebuild this country. And stop bending over for big business.
