Another by-election

Sometimes you just get a run of bad luck in politics that compounds problems that were already there.

Labour seems to be hitting one of those runs, with a fourth by-election now on the horizon just when we least need one.

Labour MP David Marshall is stepping down from his Glasgow East seat due to ill-health.

Why are you so terrified of the electorate? This seat is rock solid Labour. I could give you examples of many seats which would be much worse for a by-election.

By-elections mean nothing. Labour won dozens in the '80's and still managed to lose two general elections.

A bit of thought, first, for David Marshall. He has done a fantastic job reperesenting constituents in the mose deprived constituency in Scotland, probably in the UK. He contributed hugely to the effort to get the regeneration that will come to the East End of Glasgow in the van of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

That will be five by-elections when Wendy decides to give up completely next week and settle down to apple pie and motherhood.

Labour are terrified because the Lib Dems overturned a 11,600 Labour majority in Gordo's hometown Dunfermline at the last election. It was Labour for deacades.

Gordo is a one man election disaster machine
