Thanks for the warning, Nick
Good of Nick Clegg to warn Labour in today's Times that he intends to destroy us - the print edition even had a handy map of the Labour seats he wants to target.
Far from being potential coalition partners as some (even the great T Blair) misguidedly thought in the 1990s, Clegg reveals that the LDs dream of reversing their early 20th century eclipse by Labour and returning to a scenario where politics is a two party fight between rival middle-class parties representing nuanced versions of the same ideology. This would of course mean no voice for trade unions or working people in Parliament.
Far from being progressive, the LDs form coalitions with the Tories in twice as many hung local authorities as they do with Labour, and as part of the ELDR group in the European Parliament they consistently vote with the right and against the left on major issues.
Our Scandinavian sister parties have got liberalism sussed and refer to the Liberals and Conservatives collectively as "de borgerliga" - the middle-class block of parties.
Given Clegg's declaration of war on Labour, will our Victoria Street HQ finally abandon the non-aggression pact that has seen our national campaigns not lay a finger on them in three General Elections, with attack material such as "Liberal Demolition" having to be generated and researched by individual activists and MPs like Dan Norris, Tom Watson, Phil Woolas and John Spellar?
Time for the gloves to come off and Labour nationally to spell out the shambles the LDs are, their crazy policies and their dreadful record in power in local government.

Core votes strategy for the clients of the state. Didn't think you would buy that Luke. Into the laager...
Do the numbers - it won't work.
Maybe the Liberals willclipse the party of labour.

He's not the only one who wants to Destroy the Labour Party . . . how about, 75% of the electorate of Great Britain.
Labour are venal crooks with a lying bastard as a PM.

I take it that you haven't read the populus poll findings in the Times then Luke?
It doesn't look good for your Klunckenfuhrer or his crap party.

Huzzah! Here's to the Dan Norris shout-out. Not often do I see his name around the blogosphere.

All repeat after me:
10% cuts BAD, 9.3% cuts GOOD!
10% cuts BAD, 9.3% cuts GOOD!
Honestly - doesn't being a cheerleader for a bunch of hypocritical shysters get just a little wearing sometimes?

Funny?
I was wondering why this blog never mentions stuff like ID Cards, the removal of our freedom of speech and the right to protest.
Perhaps it's run by the Stassi?

"returning to a scenario where politics is a two party fight between rival middle-class parties representing nuanced versions of the same ideology."
That's a bit rich coming from New Labour!

Ok
Just so we are clear:
1) Local politics, from my horrible brief glimpse of it is full of complete nutters that frankly shouldn't exist - even worse, get paid in politics. The Lib Dems, it must be said, have more than the standard quota in this respect.
2) Clegg will probably regret noting his desire to destroy Labour - such comments rarely pan out.
3) Cut out the middle class rants Luke - it's complete b*llocks and you know it. If we look to the MP expenses bore, I'm sure we don't need reminding that supposed working class warriors were some of the worst offenders... Hazel Blears, please go away and (oh, don't multiply)... what always annoyed me more with her is that she is actually quite thick yet patronising at the same time...
4) The Lib Dems simply have zero heritage in relation to the Liberals. Continuing to tout this ahistorical line is a bit lame... why the Lib Dems themselves do it is totally beyond me..
Over and out..

"Time for the gloves to come off and Labour nationally to spell out the shambles the LDs are, their crazy policies and their dreadful record in power in local government."
Unlike the shambles Labour is,Labour's crazy policies, and Labour's dreadful record in Central Goverernment.
Seriously though, planning to destroy the Labour party would be a bit like torpedoing the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. Strictly speaking not really necessary.

Suits me , who needs them

I don't know where all this has come from, but I wouldn't exactly call the Labour t'party of t'workers, fighting for t'unions against the bourgeois front. I mean, you're not really a horny-handed son of the soil yourself, are you Luke?

Our Scandinavian sister parties have got liberalism sussed and refer to the Liberals and Conservatives collectively as "de borgerliga" - the middle-class block of parties.
You should see how well I go down at the very Liberal local debating society prolier-than-thou Luke but this is all good stuff to throw at the labour lite bastards

“a two party fight between rival middle-class parties representing nuanced versions of the same ideology”
We’ve had that since 1997, it was called New Labour, that is why the working class are either not bothering to vote or have turned to the BNP. I do remember someone a long, long time ago saying that she wanted to destroy socialism, maybe she did …….
The Lib Dims have always played dirty, especially in East London, why the surprise?
Having lived through the 80s I for one am not looking forward to having the Tories back but at least it might clear some of the deadwood out of the Labour leadership. Expect war on the poor

Very unlikely to happen, given that the only chance of any sort of retention of power will be in coalition with the LD's in return for a swift referendum on electoral reform
I haven't much time for Clegg. Seems definitively to the right, whereas what is needed for people like me is a party to the left of New Labour. Charles Kennedy clearly understands this and I think he will return to the leadership of the LD's after the election, when I expect Clegg to join the Tories, with, I hope, Purnell to follow him. Both would be much happier there.

The problem I that this is what's already happening. I blame FPTP.
