This joke isn't funny anymore
Compass are proudly announcing that their chum, Green MEP and party leader Caroline Lucas, is speaking at the Compass/Tribune No Turning Back rally at Labour conference this Sunday (http://www.compassonline.org.uk/news/item.asp?n=5532).
Yes, that's right, a supposedly Labour-orientated organisation is giving a high profile platform, in Brighton, to the Green Party's parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion, a marginal Labour seat they are trying to take off us/gift to the Tories by splitting the left vote.
I'm disgusted.
If you were a Labour activist in Brighton fighting to defend this seat wouldn't you feel stabbed in the back by these idiots?

COMPASS is nothing more than an entryist style organisation. It is trying to destroy the Labour Party by promoting policies plucked from nowhere. Policies that might strike a cord for a while, but really are based on the self promotion of them and not the Labour Party.
Its behaviour is very different to the critical friend of the Trade Unions or the distinct Co-operative Party. It tries to push its policies and its carefully crafted agenda.
It is time to expel them from the Labour Party and make them stand on their own two feet.

No, I'd think they were encouraging debate, not being ridiculously sectarian, and facing up to the reality that the Green party are going to attract plenty of people who quite simply don't think Labour is worth their vote again.
Labour are heading for the worst drubbing in its electoral history, and yet they appear quite paralysed in their inability to see it

I expect that the voters in Brighton who voted Labour previously also feel stabbed in the back.
Unfortunately for them, it's the Labour Party doing the stabbing.

That depends on whether you think that sectarian party labels matter more than achieving change. I think that there is much which the Green party has to offer and that they should be part of the renewal of the left which is clearly going to be in opposition after the next election. At that stage, we need to recognise that the New Labour experiment was largely disappointing, failed to deliver, and maintained power because of an unelectable opposition. Setting out a new agenda opposing the Tory government will need to include not only Labour, but also the radical wing of the Liberal democrats (see Kennedy's comments today) and the Greens. It may not include some members of new Labour who have, effectively, more in common with Cameron, and may well move over to join him.

Labour is not the left any more is it?
Many demoralised Labour voters-will turn to the Greens as the Lib/Dems are Tory and the greens believe in re-Nationalisation of the Railways!
Good on Sue Lucas she is doing a good job one which Labour was meant to do!

The "you'll hand it to the Tories" was the argument used in the most recent local by-election in Brighton and Hove, Goldsmid.
And the Greens won handsomely. Complain about the Greens or their policies, but this "let the Tories in" stuff is dishonest.
In the Northwest Labour and Liberal efforts to squeeze the Greens led to Griffin getting in, too.

Quite funny actually - but what you might loose in Brighton you might gain elsewhere - oh no, wait a minute, you won't. No one gives a flying @##@ about Compass and marginally less so Lucas...
On a brigher note I hope you all watched the sublime Vince Cable last night - if only he was chancellor, Ming foreign secretary and eeerm, can't think of a PM - perhaps Caroline Lucas would do for a laugh...
Go on Luke, kill the greens.... I'd say burn them at the stake but that would probably not help the 350ppm carbon stabilisation targets we need to start thinking about...
PS Tim Farron, someone tell the man to slow down - comparing Cumbrian farmers to Colombian coffee producers - one of the funniest if most stupid things I've heard in a long time. Even Beckett (or someone similarly well dull) wouldn't have read that puppy out...

I agree this is wrong, and I'm no fan of Compass. Expelling them isn't the answer, though. Many of their members are active CLP members who work hard to get Labour re-elected; people who were members for years before Compass was founded. (I do hope they're ashamed of their leadership from time to time, though - and especially in this case.)
They can always make up for it by canvassing for Labour in Brighton every day while they're at conference.

This is one of my MAJOR bugbears with political argument, the "vote for us or it's the Tories" argument.
If you don't have better policies then the other parties then you don't deserve votes ahead of them. End of story.

Not if you think that the direction of the party needs a definite change and that a more pluralist approach will be needed in the future - which anyone who believes in electoral reform, as Luke says he does, must accept. Labour will need to govern with others under a more proportional system. This means alliances with progressive Lib Dems and Greens
