I wonder if he is mates with this former councillor Suresh Kumar from Redbridge who asked for £10,000 in bribes to influence planning decisions. He has been sentenced to 12 months in gaol after a two month trial.

Apparently, Cllr Ansari has now decided to step down as Mayor (though not as a councillor) while he fights to clear his name.
This wasn't mentioned in the Lib Dem's original statement last night. Taking that statement at face value, in the first instance he didn't offer to relinquish the Mayoralty, at least for the interim), nor was pressure brought to bear from the LD leadership for him to do so.
Obviously, Cllr Ansari is innocent until proven guilty, but given the high esteem in which the office of Mayor is held across Camden (not least by the charities the Mayor chooses each year), I would have thought the automatic response would be to protect its reputation by stepping back from the role immediately. Surely it couldn't be the case that the Lib Dems place more importance on membership of their group than protecting the tradition and office of the Mayoralty.

With all due respect we know the Lib/Dems are a bunch of generic fraudsters, but the Mayor of Camden has allegations and has not been found guilty! If he is a Free Mason then he will get off any charges!
Luke has he been to your Lodge for support yet?

Mind you, the same thing happened here in Sefton with a Labour mayor a couple of years back

The corrupt politicians on Hackney Council are so much more effective at covering their tracks!
