Dave trip to Hackney
It was very kind of David Cameron to visit my home borough of Hackney on Monday night.
Unfortunately his grasp of Hackney psephology seems a bit limited. According to the Hackney Post website (http://hackneypost.co.uk/?p=3354 ): "Cameron said that Hackney was “now a marginal constituency”. But aside from Conservative candidates Darren Caplan and Graeme Archer, The Hackney Post was unable to find any Hackney residents among the invited guests. Out of more than 20 randomly selected spectators, 17 were from north and west London, one was from Walthamstow and two were Australian."
I'm wondering which bit of Hackney he thinks is marginal. Hackney South & Shoreditch where he was speaking? The Tories are in third place on 14% and all 27 local councillors in the constituency are Labour. Or Hackney North & Stoke Newington? The Tories are again in third place on 15%.

I could have got you in Luke as a mate of mine is doing some pre-election work for the Tories. He tipped me off about DC's trip to Shoreditch. I was almost tempted in the off chance that he might turn up in a pair of drainpipe jeans worn fetchingly at half mast.

Its not really your 'home' borough though is it Luke. Its just where you are doing your time building up a CV so you can paint the constellation 'Luke' in the starry New Labour firmament .
The second, the very second , you catch a break you will be out of there at speeds otherwise only recorded at the large hadron collider at CERN.
If then you are trying to do that “ I know these streets cobblers” then you can get on your Shire Pony and clip clop back to Surrey or whatever leafy glade of Guardian Reading bien pensant you hail from .
Incidentally I like your defence of Unions I agree much to admire about them , why do you think your big mate Tony Blair whose blow up replica doll you frequenly kiss , tried so hard to escape form Union funding then
Why selling advertising exemptions to Eccelstone , honours at a car boot , tax breaks for Private equity all to avoid the the harmless matter of being bought and paid frorn by an organisation representing about 15% of the workforce which has magically seen its pay rises quadruple retained its pensions and avoided the sort of ferocious competition the rest of us live with . Why Luke ?

I believe Hackney was once represented by the CPGB in parliament. How times have changed.

No it wasn't. The only CPGB MPs ever elected were in Battersea North, Motherwell, West Fife and Mile End.
Hackney did have a very large CPGB membership (c. 1,000) and some CPGB councillors in the 1940s (including in my current ward, Chatham).

And as far as I can see, all Hackney constituencies have voted Labour in every election since the second world war (though there have been a few mid-term defections).
Both constituencies are currently Labour.
And both will be Labour after the election.
So no, times haven't changed that much.

I was at the event, but camped by the bar as any good hack would be at such an event. The comment was a lighthearted joke, as even in his wildest dreams Cameron knows Hackney is staying Labour.
Chill out and develop a sense of humour!

At least he has the guts to come and speak in the one party New Labour state called The Peoples Republic of Hackney. Luke you have an easy ride in this borough with little or no opposition. If you really want to earn your laurels why don't you go and help campaign in a Marginal seat
