Yes to AV
I am one of the signatories on the letter in the Guardian launching the Labour Yes to AV campaign today:

I don't think AV is a panacea for Labour or the country's political system but it maintains the link between MPs and their constituencies whilst increasing voter choice, reducing the number of wasted or tactical votes, and ensuring every MP is elected with a mandate from at least 50% of their constituents. I believe it will contribute to a Labour revival in the south and rural areas where our vote has been artificially suppressed by tactical voting under First-Past-the-Post.

We don't need all this non-sense gimmicks on AV, we need a planned economy strengthened by high-tec industrialisation, people need jobs and to maintain work they need skill training available to all as an investment that will pay off!

In the UK the last real40% Socialist government was in 1948 and that was only because the working class had 5 years of combat and rationing that some socialist policies were implemented, such as the NHS and welfare and ever sinse its the Unions that have fought to save it. We recently had 13 years of Labour, but because of globalisation it only achieved very basic essentials such as the min wage and tax credits,m but other than that hardly ant difference to the Tories.To change society for the better will need to be done not just by the party political system we have in place now.

I find this idea that AV gives the elected representative 50% support utter nonsense. The party's own leadership contest had to go to the fourth round for one candidate to top 50% on voters alternative choices. The winner of the first three counts then finished up the loser meaning that the one most people chose actually lost. What kind of democratic madness is that. Even PR would be better.
