A Bradford councillor has been remanded in custody by magistrates after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to animals.

Robert Payne, who represents Keighley West on Bradford District Council, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 before magistrates in Bingley.

The 36-year-old former Tory councillor, who currently stands as an Independent councillor, was arrested by police at his home in the Beechcliffe area of Keighley on Monday.

The politician, who was convicted of fraud earlier this year, admitted causing injury to four cats which resulted in their death.

Court officials said the politician was remanded in custody due to the seriousness of the offence. He is due to reappear at Bradford Crown Court on December 23 for sentencing.

Nice post which the obvious threat, a change by the Coalition Government to rules on donations to put an upper limit on donations by a single organisation. That would cause catastrophic damage to Labour’s finances but it might leave the political connection between the two wings of the Labour movement – industrial and political- intact. Thanks a lot for posting this article.
