Yes, in 2007 Tony Blair said that he did not know why the Labour Party Conference had not discussed Trident replacement. I did not believe him at the time. However, I now think that, given his own hesitation over the issue, he may well have been telling the truth.
Such debate may well have been blocked because that is what the powers that be thought he wanted.
Before the Labour Party Conference in 2006, no less than 17 CLP motions on Trident were declared out of order.
