Saying no to a primary for London Mayor 2016

John Spellar and I have written a joint article opposing the call made last week for London Labour to use a primary to pick its 2016 Mayoral candidate: http://labourlist.org/2012/10/a-london-primary-would-be-wrong-for-the-labour-party/

I really do not care at all for Luke's attempt to equate the Tea Party nutters and those people who ousted Joe Liebermann.

Democratic voters had a whole host of reasons for disliking Liebermann stretching back many years.

In fact, many conservatives supported Liebermann in his 1988 senate victory because they did not like liberal Republican Lowell Weicker.

Personally, I would have preferred it if Weicker had been re-elected.

Liebermann won in 2006 with the support of only 33% of Democrats but with 70% of Republican voters (CNN exit polls).

By contrast, his primary ouster had 65% support among Democrats in the general election.
