Walthamstow selection result

Congratulations to my friend and former colleague at Lewisham Council Stella Creasy who was selected yesterday as Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Walthamstow (Lab maj 7993), the seat where she lives, in succession to Neil Gerrard MP.

I think Stella will make a big impact both on the PLP and on delivering local improvements for Walthamstow - she's a very hard working campaigner and a policy ideas person too.

  1. I've seen Stella operate with the public. She'll be great. The 9 Fib Dem Councillors in Walthamstow will be getting very worried.

  2. I don't know the winning candidate at all, but once again, a BME candidate has lost out on an all-woman shortlist.

Obviously this may well have been a matter of merit, but it still isn't a good situation.

  3. As a Walthamstow Labour member, but no longer an active meeting goer mainly due to the appalling nature of the local party, I am pleased that Stella won. She has made by far the biggest impact on the non Labour members of all the candidates, with many speaking warmly of her. Not because she is right or left wing, but because she has been active and innovative in the community. Of the other candidates, several came to my door and were rude to my (labour voting but not a member) partner, others dropped leaflets and ran, one seemed only to be running to satisfy certain local party activist egos, and only one (Dora Dixon-Fyle) made a strong positive impression.

Also pleased that we had an all women shortlist, as the local party would have imploded in a similar way to the local elections if all the egos had been running.

  4. I second all of the above. Stella Creasy was the best woman for the job, Dora too has a bright future. If I were her I'd already be heading for Streatham.

  6. Belated congrats to Stella. Meanwhile the Positively Stellar Respect Renewal / Talksport seaside extravaganza is in tatters here.

  7. From what I have heard, a good choice. I will miss Neil Gerrard, though- rebellions aside, did a great job raising Parliamentary awareness on HIV/AIDS issues.

Leadership line, as with almost all of her views...
