Thank you to everyone who voted for me - as you can imagine I've had a pretty amazing last 24 hours with the narrowness of my own win and the candidate I backed for Leader winning by almost as tight a margin.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSome interesting results. CLP nominations total was not a good indicator this time. I guess it's because of the higher turnout.
3 incumbents re-elected and 3 defeated (including 2 long standing members like Wheeler and Willsman).
1 Labour First gain in terms of composition overall.
Is it a bit of a London domination in terms of people elected?
Well done Luke, many condolences to the Peters. Having this name was a criterion last time out. Extraordinarily close to getting five of six constituency reps = women. Reckon at least four would have had Ed ahead of David for leader.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeletea 4-2 win then?
ReplyDeleteWell done Luke - interesting to see where the failures were !
ReplyDeleteGW
Congratulations Luke!
ReplyDeleteDo you know when the NPF results are released?
Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteGenuine question - in your opinion does this mean that the NEC is moving to the right?
Fantastic - well done!
ReplyDeleteGive my regards to Ed.
ReplyDeleteFive years to go, then he's off to become a grandee.
The rest of you lot are going to be wondering around the wilderness for the next fifteen years or so.
If you see Bob Crow, my congrats. Well done, we're well and truly screwed.
Anon, 7.41PM:
ReplyDeleteWhy do pisspoor wums like yourself bother? You seriously expect anybody to believe you are a Labour supporter??
You reveal your insufferable, braying ignorance in citing that familiar bogeyman of the Tory gutter press, Bob Crow.....
His union is NOT affiliated to the Labour party - and he despises us.
As I said, pisspoor.
(PS, well done Luke ;-))
Tom, NPF results are here...
ReplyDeletehttp://www2.labour.org.uk/npf-results
Um, if the RMT were affiliated to the Labour Party, then that prolific commenter Anonymous might have the first glint in the milkman's eye of a point.
ReplyDeleteWell done. Cameron and Clegg must be quaking in their well-heeled boots.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Luke, but elsewhere some cause for unease.
ReplyDeleteThe lurch back to Ken for London shows little imagination when someone younger and fresher was really needed to take on Boris. Even if Ken were elected, by some miracle, will he really have the energy as he closes in on septuagenerian status.
As to Ed M well, whatever his qualities and I must admit to feeling his older brother was more ready for the job now, the fact he is not most people's first choice is worrying. Equally the debt he now owes to the unions, regardless of his necessary claim to be his own man, the Tories will exploit unmercifully.
Although the NEC may have a moderate feel to it, the media and opposition will herald the more obvious left wing swing arising out of Ed and Ken, already being dubbed jointly as Red.
Let's hope young Ed matures quickly in stature and becomes a worthwhile leader of the opposition but he is facing a tough ride.
Jim Jepps are you coming back into the Labour party to fight for Socialism instead of of belonging to that unelectable rabble?
ReplyDeleteUN 'to appoint space ambassador to greet alien visitors'
A space ambassador could be appointed by the United Nations to act as the first point of contact for aliens trying to communicate with Earth.
Congratulations Luke, you'll be a great addition to the NEC, although I'm very disappointed about Peter Wheeler.
ReplyDeleteIt's 1 gain for the RIght to make the NEC 3-3. WOuldn't read too much into it: the Left was split for the first time in years.
ReplyDeleteBtw why do Oona King's supporters constantly mention that she is YOUNGER than Ken? Is it to cover up that her policies (such as they exist) are moonbat rightwing nonsense? It's pretty despicable anyway.
'Landslide' Luke!
ReplyDeleteAs far as Mister Ed is concerned, I shall scream if I hear any more reports of how he only won because of the unions.
David Miliband had enormous support from the media and from wealthy backers. Had he won, would we have heard how he only won because of them and how he must demomstrate that he is not their stooge? Somehow, I rather doubt it.
And Mister Ed, we are told was not the choice of Labour MP's. Well that's no bad thing bearing in mind their poor judgement. Most of them supported the abolition of the 10p tax rate and lined up like lemmings to nominate Gordon Brown thus ensuring there was no election.
The Conservative Party is reportedly pleased with the result. I think they ought to be very careful what they wish for!
You did'nt get my vote, but congratulations never the less, I am sure you will do an excellent job.
ReplyDeleteNow we can build some sort of counter attack on the worst of these spending cuts.
As for worries about Ed, I think they are misplaced. He is a run of the mill centerist social democrat and should be palletable to both wings of the party and to the general public. He recognises we made mistakes in government and we lost trust, and I think that might be key in gaining public trust, "governements lose elections.."
I suppose if you oppose any of the cuts you might lay yourself open to being considered left wing.....
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteKen Livingstone - London
Oona King - London
Ann Black - Oxford
Ellie Reeves - London
Christine Shawcroft - London
Luke Akehurst - London
Nothing like a good bit grass-roots representation on the NEC.
Congratulations - I like a balanced team as you know and I think you will do a good job. Whilst I don't agree with you on everything I share with you the view that we need to have a go at the FibDems.
ReplyDeleteOne slight concern is that the very large memberships of London parties and the fact that Ken and OOna are well known may have given them an advantage so we do have a very London-centric CLP team.
If you want to come up to Liverpool sometime it would be appreciated!!
Well done, Luke. And not bad from the point of view of Eastbourne CLP, who nominated 4 (from across the spectrum) three of whom were elected- including yourself.

ReplyDeletea 4-2 win then?
Surely a three-all tie ? Ken, Ann and Christine from the left, Oona, Ellie and Luke from the right ?
need to take on board the London factor
ReplyDeleteand I am from London
I see that Amanda Platell was on the 'Politics Show' and she thought that Ed Miliband would grow into his role.
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly. However, he does need to look at the issue of how his mouth operates when he speaks.
I am glad that he won because David Miliband was simply too right wing. I would have despaired if he had won.
