Akehurst joins UNISON

No - not me - but UNISON seem to be doing a good job recruiting staff of Tory-run Kent County Council - they've just signed up my mum, who is a nursery school classroom assistant on the minimum wage, all her colleagues and the school caretaker. I'm pleased to say she also ticked the box to be part of the UNISON Affiliated Political Fund - http://www.unison.org.uk/labourlink/index.asp

Well good for your mum. I hope she will be supporting Jon Cruddas for Deputy Leader.

Just curious but ... isn't your mum entitled to some privacy?

Seeing as she has been a Labour parish council candidate and sticks a very large "vote Labour" poster on her lawn every 4 years I doubt she would want to hide being a trade union member. She told me her boss already knows and isn't happy ...

Pay levels for classroom assistants are a matter of public record and being low paid is something to shout about and try to change, not hide.
