Council by-election results

Last night's council by-election results:

Old Gore Ward, Herefordshire. Con hold. Con 422 (37.9%, -8%), Ind 401 (36.0%, -1.8%), LD 241 (21.7%, +5.4%), Green 49 (4.4%, did not stand last time) . No Labour candidate.

Holmewood & Heath Ward, NE Derbyshire. Lib Dem gain from Lab in a ward that was uncontested in 2006 and 2007. LD 382 (42.3%), Lab 356 (39.4%), Con 165 (18.3%). Ouch!

Holmewood ward is next door to Chesterfield borough council, which the Lib dems control. It is not a great suprise that they took this seat - they obviously piled in from nearby chesterfield. It does not indicate any other significant changes nor a threat to Natacha Engel in NE derbyshire

Quite right. The only threats to Natascha Engel are her blind subservience to Gordon Dither, her support to the death for Peter Hain and the fact that people can't spell her name correctly.

'Fraid not, old bean - it's the old spelling problem again. Plural - financier of Karl Marx. Singular, boring MP for NE Derbyshire.

Meanwhile that Vince Cable is a silly sausage.

Where did the good doctor get the squaddie wages figures he has been spouting as they are completely and utterly wrong.

Strangely commenters at LDV are trying to change the subject on that one. Don't panic, don't panic.

Embarrassing as the 10p tax farrago is this is bang to rights Lib Dem bolocks en plein air and should be challenged by PR-ologists for the defence industry.

It seems to me that Labour are scared and willing to do anything to keep power even if it means messing around with the rules on voting.

I honestly can't see the point of supporting this government at all. In terms of performance they have failed in every aspect both socially and economically.

Tax Tax Tax and not a thing to show for it apart from millions dependent on tax credits to live.

House prices out of reach of nearly every working person and a massive decline in the quality of social housing.

House prices now crashing with expected falls of 30% which will hurt nearly 20 million families in the UK and make nearly 1.5 million homeless.

Immigration crippling local services and there is now proof that this denying our school leavers of work.

Two wars, a million lives and an MOD that is facing financial disaster.

Thousands of troops, myself included, now have health problems because of the blatant use of spent uranium in US shells. No recognition from the state or the MOD.

People hate this government and it's time for change. Luke you are truly blind folded to the problems this government has created.

Labour in crisis and you thought I was talking rubbish. You'll be eating your words by the end of this year Luke. The knives are already out for Brown and experts say he won't last another year.

So Luke are you going to start to listen to working men like me or are you going to continue to carry on regardless.

Change direction now or face destroying the Labour party completely. I'm in talks next week with a major union that represents 1000s of skilled workers and the main agenda is Labour party funding. Others will follow believe me.

Labour have pissed some seriously powerful people off and now it's show time. Rumour has it that Murdoch may be turning on Labour.

I don't think that Luke or anyone else should listen to fascist sympathisers, Rich.

I wouldn't have imagined that the unions would be keen to either.
