Unite/Amicus runners & riders

I was going to post something trying to explain the runners and riders for the current election for General Secretary of the Amicus section of Unite, and why the election is happening, but Gill George of the Socialist Workers Party has blogged about this already so I will limit myself to linking to her description of what is going on (obviously without endorsing the political views she is expressing).

Oddly, left caucus Unity Gazette (http://unitygazette.org.uk/) which backed Derek Simpson against Sir Ken Jackson is now not backing Derek, nor ex-SWP activist Jerry Hicks, but instead supporting Laurence Faircloth, with most of the online cheer leading being done by Westmorland & Lonsdale Labour Parliamentary Candidate John Wiseman (http://wisemanleft.blogspot.com/) who unfortunately cannot spell his favoured candidate's name.

Will the real left candidate please stand up?

UPDATE: there's another take on the election here (from yet another faction of the left): http://www.dearunite.com/

Derek Simpson appears to be a much better candidate for the left than Faircloth, who has produced a real catch-all, apolitical hacks statement.

Wiseman is basically spamming Labourhome at the moment. And has strangely produced a blog which he claims to be Unite Left but really seems to be all him!

Who are you backing Luke? Kevin Coyne?

But anyway I'm in the T&G section.

Speaking as a T&G member, I'd quite like my union back now please...

The cheerleading maybe be done myself, but it take alot take on the machine which is the established part of the union. We have tried to select a candidate in Laurence who is pro reform of the Labour Party, but actually has a track recoed in the union and the party. He was an MEP candidate once I believe. He will appeal to the centre and left and doh! correction made on blog. I hope you back him Luke because your branch is going to. My blog is not all of unite left, I actually set it up a year ago, please read the puropose. I hope you can support him.

Hi Luke/John(s)

I have been told that the one to watch is Paul Reuter.

As for having your union back, we are stronger if we stand together.

But if DS wins, you may get your wish...
