Council By-Election Results

Last night's council by-election results.

Plaistow Ward, Chichester DC. Con hold. Con 455 (57.1%, -21), LD 342 (42.9%, +21). Swing of 21% from Con to LD since 2007.

Hyde Newton Ward, Tameside MBC. Lab hold. Lab 1379 (45.6%, +9.1), BNP 889 (29.4%, +1.9), Con 485 (16%, -7.8), LD 172 (5.7%, -6.5), Green 69 (2.3%, +2.3), UKIP 33 (1.1%, +1.1). Swing of 3.6% from BNP to Lab since 2008. Pleasing result for Labour and anyone hostile to the BNP. In raw terms Labour got over 250 more votes than in May last year.

Tynemouth Ward, North Tyneside MBC. Con hold. Con 1538 (62.2%, -5.4), Lab 701 (28.4%, -4), LD 233 (9.4%, +9.4). Swing of 0.7% from Con to Lab since 2008.

Heath Town Ward, Wolverhampton MBC. Lab hold. Lab 621 (49.2%, +5.5), Con 495 (39.2%, -17.2), LD 147 (11.6%, +11.6). Swing of 11.4% from Con to Lab since 2008. Excellent result for Labour (though on a low turnout) in a ward where another seat was lost to the Tories last May.

Rossett Ward, Wrexham UA. Con hold. Con 604 (63.7%, +2.7), LD 218 (23%, -8.2), Ind 85 (9%, +9), Lab 41 (4.3%, -3.5). Swing of 5.5% from LD to Con since 2008.

Have you seen what the weather was like in Heath Town yesterday? This is an election decided by postal votes - Labour's strong suit.

621 votes is probably the lowest winning total in Wolverhampton history.

When one considers the Pavlovian nature of the bog-standard BNP voter, many of whom vote Nazi simply because they always have (like their fathers and grandfathers before them), it is little wonder that in some of these Labourforsaken northern hell-holes you could stick a red white and blue rosette on a cardboard cut-out of Trevor Philips and they'd still vote for it.

The fact that many of these poor unfortunate racists can trace an unbroken line of vile BNP-voting ancestors right back to the first odious Peasants' Revolt of 1381 (some 600 years before the formation of the party itself) tells one all one needs to know about their susceptibility to reason.

Trying to engage knuckledraggers of this kidney in rational debate is not only futile but often wholly counterproductive. One is reminded of the demented harridan who, Queen Canute-like, draws a line in the sand, expecting it to
hold back a tidal wave of indigenous opinion, only to find herself up to her ears in it (and I don't mean sand), before she can say 'positive action'.

When one also considers that the neo-Neanderthal vote is further bolstered by the 'vicious' campaigning of a whole raft of state-funded organisations - outfits like Rock Against Hope, Love Music Hate Pete Doherty, Unite Against Searchlight, and The Anti-Lily Allen League, we can, I think, be rather proud of having managed to successfully field a candidate here in Hyde Newton.

Nice to see that Wat Tyler 150 admits that the BNP are a Nazi organisation. I thought they were denying this history.

I also note that Tyler admits to membership of this Nazi organisation.

Enough said !

You could say the same thing about Labour supporters.

No Rich. You can say lots of things about Labour supporters. But they're not so mad and/or stupid to join a party founded by a man who got a kick out of dressing in Nazi uniforms and which is currently led by a man who dismisses any suggestion that the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews as the "Holohoax". That's what BNP members are signing up to.

I'm afraid you will find scum like that in all parts of society, regardless of how they vote. It is only the BNP that would see people like that hanging from a rope.

Another Sunday with more revelations about Labour sleaze.

So it's ok for Jacqui Smith to pass up a grace and favour home, and instead lumber the taxpayer with £ 200,000 in extra police costs so she can pocket £ 116,000 in expenses.

No more lectures about greedy bankers when senior members of the government have their snouts stuck in the trough.

Talking of the Pavlovian nature of voters ... a senior Labour Party member once admitted to me that - in some wards in Hackney - you could stick a red (and yellow) rosette on a pig, and the electorate would still vote it in as a Labour councillor.

Not that I would draw any analogy between a pig sporting a red rosette and our blessed Luke!

Yes Rich people can join whichever political party they want to but that doesn't make them exempt from criticism. We're a free country thanks to the good sense and wise judgment of the British people in rejecting nutters such as the BNP and instead valuing mainstream democratic politics. The rise of the BNP in some parts of the country suggests that either those voters have taken temporary leave of their senses or the BNP has successfully deceived them. Anyone who does 2 minutes of internet research into the history of the party and the background of its leading members can surely not fail to notice that they are all quite bezerk.

Jako, If New Labour had allowed a full and open debate on immigration levels before it got out of control, then the BNP would not have a platform.

Instead anyone wanting to discuss immigration was automaticaly smeared as a racist by New Labour, this together with their free for all / no controls immigration has been a gift to the BNP.

Well done New Labour another own goal.

No, sorry - what you mean is if Labour had adopted BNP policy, the BNP would not have a platform. Just because a 'debate' takes place does not mean that populist prejudice should be followed in all cases.

I'd rather Labour lose support than adopt fascist policies.

Controlling immigration is not a fascist policy. This whole idea of free movement is great in theory but in reality it has hurt the poorest in this country.

A recent report has shown that only 10% of British people have benefited from the global market.

The population is split on this debate 60% think that economic migrants should be controlled even inside Europe and the remaining 40% think there should be free movement.

So what you are saying is that 60% of British people are fascists. I might also point out that it was the working classes that stopped Hitlers advance in the second world war.

Ignore this issue and people will simply turn to the party that offers a solution. At the moment that is the BNP.

Though I hate to be seen to agree with him, Rich does have a point.

When I applied to emigrate to a socialist South American country and was recently refused = because of their immigration policy = it never crossed my mind that they were putting in place fascist policies, just protectionist policies (which I don't necessarily agree with either).

So no debate allowed because we might have populist prejudice?Doesn't say much for your powers of pursuasion.

So no democracy either in case we don't like the outcome?

Your truly doing a great job for the BNP.

Just look at what is happening in the UK. Floating hotels loaded with workers ready to undercut British workers and when I say British workers that includes all races. We have over 2 million on the dole yet it is ok to import workers???????????

Some of you need to start listening to the voices of the working classes. We are suffering because we have a government and a dti that has caved in to pressure from big business to allow the global labour market into the UK with no controls. The UK is unlike most of our European neighbours as we have very poor employment rights.

This combination is causing massive problems and driving down wages. The government must act now. Support British workers by writing to your MP. This is your last chance to stand by the core beliefs of the Labour party.

I'm not asking you to support the BNP just make a stand and spend 5 mins of your time by writing to your MP. If anything it might actually do some good.

No, read what I said.

Have the debate - but ultimately do what you believe to be right. You seem to think that its not only about discussing the issue but then doing what no left-of-centre government should ever do.

And that wouldn't be to adopt the BNP approach which I think is profoundly wrong. Debate all you wish but you will never convince me that is the way forward.

Now, on the topic of proper rights for workers and the unmitigated free market, that's another matter. Housing, too. Deal with those things before trying to make out its all about immigration.

With the prosecution of Geert Wilders for racism the courts in the Netherlands made the following statement "stigmatization of a majority is impossible. Discrimination is something which by definition can affect only minorities."

I live in South Africa so how come the white minority have no such protection or better stated no protection what so ever. Any rape or murder of a white person is merely a crime, insulting a black person is front page news.

So it stands to reason the above statement only applies when said minority is non-white!!!

Crazy world, if the ANC ruled in Brittan they would have been called the "White nationalist congress" yet no one is calling them racist, yet a party who stands firstly for the Brits are. I am not English it is but a second language to me so I am conflicted as to whether I want the BNP to win, or the British to suffer the full might of their demographic future and ignorance.
