Do these really tell us anything though? I suspect as they are local by-elections that national issues took a back seat. I can't imagine many people being bothered to turn out mid week to send a message to the government.

The general election is unfortunately I believe a foregone conclusion. Dave Cameron has got the ball on the spot and all he needs to do is slide it past the dodgy keeper. Surely he can't hoof it over the bar?

Labour have blown it and did very little in the 12 years!

1997 was the end of boom and bust yet they continued to let the property market astronomically overinflated without adequate regulation and control-So on the one hand living standards were raised but only to be wiped out any gains in the cost of housing! all they could do is follow those stupid Americans in their Cruzades!

The amazing thing about these results is that there was a property developer left in Blackpool to have made a donation to anyone (fyi: by-election was tiggered by the death of the fabulously Trollopean-named mayor Granville Heap).

Developers bought up Blackpool in 2005 when it looked set to be awarded super-casino status (aka: native american reservation status), when that plan came up double-zero they all scarpered again!

On an unconnected note, a series of mysterious sea-front fires have swept Blackpool since property values there sunk back below the sands.

The Hucknall result is dire - a formerly solid Labour area in marginal Sherwood constituency
