Not sure you can read much into these - Lib Dems pushed into third by all of 7 votes.

The Pontypool ward was won with someone getting around 160 votes! Wow.

@Anonymous
Wards in Torfaen have a wide variation in size with corresponding variations in elctorate too. Pontypool ward has one councillor - Pontnewydd, for instance, has three.
Pontypool ward has an electorate of about 1500 people - all of them with a chip on their shoulder about the council spending money anywhere except Pontypool ward, which fuels the absurd number of independents.Add in the story of the resigned independent councillor whose departure provoked the by-election and you have a truly exceptional contest.

I see from the latest polls the Torys are set to lose around 1000 seats and the Lie Dems are set to lose about 700 in May.

Not before time I say!!
