My labourlist column this week is about the forthcoming publication of the Purple Book:

Totally off topic but...Stoke Newington carved up between 2 constituencies in the boundary review!!!! If the BCE has repeated abominations like this throughout the country there might be a chance yet to kill this gerrymandering bill.

I'm not sure that it is on Luke's reading list, but "Off Message" by Bob Marshall-Andrews is well worth reading.

And some of the people in Labour's High Command now admit that Labour got many of these issues wrong at the time.

Oh, make no mistake, it has....

Some of the Cumbrian seats, for example, are a genuine disgrace.

Following the other comments, I think that there is a strong chance thst this will be defeated.
The whole premise of having too many MPs is total nonsense anyway.

And there is appalling cynicism behind it as the number of ministers and parliamentary hangers-on will not be reduced. Thus the power of the government over parliament will increase.

However, I am doubtful that the Conservative Party will benefit as much as they think.
