Labourlist column

My Labourlist column this week is about the recent dip in the opinion polls:

I think that Ed Miliband was unwise to say what he did. The next general election is some way off and spending decisions do not need to be made until then.

Luke's flexibility on the question of 'realism' is very welcome as reality can be difficult to measure.

Think of a victorious Truman posing with a copy of the Chicago Daily Tribune which bore the headline:

"Dewey beats Truman"

Or think of that eve of election "rogue" poll that put the Conservatives ahead in 1970.

Miliband?

Don't you mean the other Ed??

This all started with an attempt by Balls to get friendly "spin" from a supposedly sympathetic Graun journalist - but the way the latter framed it meant it blew of in his, and Labour's, face.

Must do better.

Okay, Ed Miliband and Ed Balls.
Either way, it was a self-inflicted and totally unnecessary wound. This sort of thing happened regularly under Foot and Kinnock.
