Columns this week

On Labourlist I wrote about the YouGov polling about the political attitudes of different social classes: http://labourlist.org/2012/10/we-need-to-avoid-appealing-to-an-imaginary-radical-working-class-vote/

On Progress I took Polly Toynbee to task about Trident replacement: http://www.progressonline.org.uk/2012/10/31/fight-fight-and-fight-again/

tedTrident has nothing whatsoever to do with defence. That is not why we acquired them, that is not why we retain them.

Luke uses the word 'deterrent' as if it were some sort of proven fact rather than mere unproven assertion.

If people want to hear some common sense on this issue, then read Michael Portillo's latest comments.

As far as the jobs aspect, we must ensure that the skills of the people who make nuclear weapons are used to build things that we actually need. They should not have to choose between unemployment and making weapons that threaten to destroy us.
